Note Card Folio Tutorial

So many of you have asked for this so here it is -- a tutorial for the Note Card Folio project that I've done in the past. I have made this fairly quick and easy project using several different color themes and stamp sets (click here to view some other Note Card Folio designs), and each one turns out great. This little folio with 4 note cards and matching envelopes makes a great gift for a teacher or loved one and, if you are a demonstrator, it makes a fabulous hostess gift. It also makes a great class or club project.

I am using the Windsor Knot Designer Series Paper and the Dreams du Jour stamp set for my project today, but the possibilities are endless for different combinations. Assemble Your Supplies

• 2 pieces 8 1/2x11" colored cardstock for folio and card bases
• 1 piece 8 1/2 x 11" Whisper White cardstock for note cards
• Various other cardstock pieces and DSP pieces for embellishments
• Ribbon
• Stamp Set(s) of your choice
• Stampin' Write Markers and Ink Pads in selected colors
• Black Stazon ink
• Paper Trimmer with Scoring Blade
• Paper Snips Scissors
• Square Scallop Punch
• Stampin' Dimensionals
• Scallop Edge Punch
• Sticky Strip and SNAIL
• Bone Folder
• 4 Medium Envelopes

Cutting and Assembly Directions for the Folio (click on any photo for a larger image)

1. Align one piece of colored cardstock (I used Sage Shadow) on your paper trimmer with the shortest side at the top. Using your Scoring Blade, make a score line at 2 1/2" down the long edge of the paper (your score line will be 11" long.
2. Rotate your cardstock 90 degrees in the paper cutter and make a score line at 5 1/4" from the short edge.
3. Rotate your cardstock 180 degrees (flip it around) and make another score line at 5 1/4" from the other short edge. You will now have 2 score lines running the short length of the cardstock, each 1/4" from the center of the paper.
4. With your Paper Snips, cut along the score lines from the bottom of the cardstock to the 2 1/2" score line.
5. Fold up the little "tab" and secure down using SNAIL adhesive.
6. 6. Using the Cutter Blade in your Paper Trimmer, you are going to make a diagonal cut from the top of that slit to the bottom, angling the paper so that the bottom of the paper is cut at 1/2". You will be cutting off a long triangular piece of cardstock.
7. Now you are going to do exactly the same thing on the other side of the slit, angle the opposite direction by 1/2" and cut out the long triangular shaped piece.
8. You will end up with a cut-out on your cardstock that looks like this -- a 2 1/2" long "slit" that is 1/2" wide at the top (on the score line) and 1 1/2" wide at the bottom edge of the cardstock.
9. Decorate your flaps as desired. On this example, I used 1" strips of Windsor Knot Stripe DSP and So Saffron Cardstock, which I scalloped in the Scallop Edge Punch. I also put a length of 3/8" Chocolate Chip Taffeta Ribbon over the junction of the 2 papers. Using your Paper Snips, trim your embellishment papers to match the diagonal cuts that you made earlier.
10. Turn your piece over (this will be the inside of your Folio) and apply Sticky Strip along each outer edge, from the bottom of the cardstock to the 2 1/2" score line.
11. Remove the red Sticky Strip backing and fold up each flap, using your Bone Folder to make a nice, crisp fold. Run the Bone Folder along the edges to make sure and "seal" the Sticky Strip.
12. This is what the inside of your Folio will look like.
13.   Next, decorate the outside of your Folio. I approach this in much the same way that I would make a card. For this example, I put on layers of Chocolate Chip Cardstock (5 x 5 3/4") and Whisper White Cardstock (4 3/4 x 5 1/2"). I then attached 1 1/4" strips of two different DSP patterns and ran a length of 3/8" Chocolate Chip taffeta Ribbon down the entire piece, attaching the ribbon to the back of the mats. I stamped with small "love" image using Black Stazon Ink and colored in with Stampin' Write Markers. I trimmed along the lines with my Paper Snips and adhered it to Chocolate Chip Cardstock that had been punched with the Scallop Square Punch. I applied this over the ribbon, using Stampin' Dimensionals.
14. I tied a length of Taffeta Ribbon to make a bow and stamped the sentiment in the bottom right-hand corner, using Black Stazon ink.
15. Attach the decorated front to the Folio Base, using Sticky Strip.
16. And here is your completed Card Folio!

Decorate the Note Cards and Envelopes

1. For each of the 4 Note Cards, I embellished a layer of Whisper White cardstock (5 1/4 x 4") by adding a 1" strip of Striped DSP and a length of 3/8" Chocolate Chip Taffeta Ribbon at the top. I attached a decorated Scallop Square (the same as you made for the Folio -- you need a total of 5 of these) with Stampin' Dimensionals and tied on a ribbon bow.
2. I scalloped the bottom edge of the Whisper White cardstock using the Scallop Edge Punch.
3. I attached the embellished Whisper White layer to a base of Sage Shadow Cardstock (5 1/2 x 4 1/4" -- you cut 4 Note Cards from 1 sheet of Cardstock). The Note Cards are not folded cards.
4. For each envelope, I slipped a strip of DSP (1 x 5 1/2") inside the enveloped and adhered with a little bit of SNAIL adhesive (you can see this when you insert your card in the envelope). I also stamped the small "love" image on the bottom left corner of the front of the envelope and colored in with markers.
