I'm Diggin' It!

I was so excited when I saw this new stamp set, I Dig You, in the catalog! What fun images for little boys! And the bold, solid images of these stamps make them a breeze to work with, creating fun and fast cards for the little guys in your life!

Taking my cue from the Button Buddies set, I used large black buttons for the wheels on this dump truck. Other supplies and accessories include 1/2" Polka Dot Scalloped Ribbon, The Big Shot and the Houndstooth Impressions Folder (looks very industrial, don't you think?), Stampin' Dimensionals and Crystal Effects to glue on the buttons.

 

Colors include Old Olive, Riding Hood Red, Basic Black, Tangerine Tango, Tempting Turquoise and Whisper White. I used Stampin' Write Markers to color directly on the stamp for the gift image. And, don't forget the inside of the card -- what fun to surprise your little guy with another vehicle waiting there.

A Tasteful Trim Birthday

Hello everyone and welcome to a new Utah Divas International Color Challenge! I don't know about you but I am declaring the end to winter weather (I know, lots of luck with that!). The past few days have been beautiful here in Central Illinois -- it's nearly 60 degrees here right now. I am ready for spring!

And to help us get there, look at this beautiful bedding set that serves as the inspiration for this week's color challenge using the colors of Melon Mambo, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip and Whisper White. Talk about spring fever ...

To add a little interest and something different to the background of my card, I cut the Jumbo Ric Rac Shape from the Tasteful Trims Die using the Big Shot and Melon Mambo Cardstock. I inked the edges with Melon Mambo, adhered it to a Certainly Celery background and then smashed the whole thing together with the Square Lattice Impressions Folder and the Embedded Embossing Technique. I just love this look!

Stamp sets include Crazy for Cupcakes and Perfect Punches. Other accessories include the Wide Oval Punch, sponges, Stampin' Dimensionals and Chunky Pink Glitter (retired, sorry!). It's a quick and fun birthday card, perfect for just about any age!

Spring is in the Air (even though it's not even winter yet!)!!!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Control Freaks December Blog Tour. This month we are featuring cards and projects using items from the upcoming Occasions Mini (begins January 4th) and Sale-a-Bration (begins January 25th) catalogs.

Okay, without further delay, I've got two ... well really 3 great projects to share with you today.

Isn't this a darling little set? Perfect for any spring event -- wedding, shower, May Day, Easter, Mother's Day ...

For the card, I used the Build a Blossom Stamp set with the coordinating Blossom Petals Extra Large Punch. The colors are Melon Mambo, Peach Parfait, Whisper White and Certainly Celery cardstocks and inks. I also used the new embossing Folder, Framed Tulips, along with the Big Shot for that fabulous border that runs along the edges of the card. The Big button is from  the Sweet Stitches Designer Collection, tied on with a bit of 1/8" Daffodil Delight Taffeta Ribbon. The flower is attached to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals!

Now, I know you're probably wondering about this cool Cone Favor. It's the newest die for the Big Shot, called the Petal Cone Die. And it's super easy and fast to put together.

 

The scallop circle comes as part of the die, along with a banner for a sentiment. I used textured Melon Mambo cardstock and again, Peach Parfait for the scallop border on the flaps. The ribbon is 1/2" Stitched Poly Ribbon in Peach Parfait, fastened with the fabulous new Sweet Stitches Fabric Designer Brads.

 

The cone is about 4.5" tall so can really hold a lot of candy or other treats!

 

Okay, I've got one more project for you today -- a fun interactive spinner card using the Take a Spin Set. How fun is this and think of all the possibilities! The stamp set comes with 4 different "faces" for the spinner. I decided to go with the Birthday Theme and make it in bright "girly" colors -- Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Certainly Celery and Whisper White.

 

Now, in addition to the spinner, do you see that fabulous and funky Popcorn Trim? Available in 3 colors, beginning January 4th, this promises to be a real winner. What fun to add such wonderful texture and interest to your projects.

 

The sentiment is from Curly Cute and I used the Big Shot along with the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions Folder and the Scallop Squares Duo Die. The ribbon is 1/2" Stitched Poly in Pear Pizzazz.

Birthday Balloons!

Hello everyone and Happy Friday. Welcome to a new Sketch Challenge from the Stamping 411 Operators!

 

There's one important element to remember when working with this sketch ... your images (flowers on the sketch) should extend off the focal image mat. Now when I look at this sketch, instead of flowers, I really see balloons!

 

So what else to create this week but a Birthday Card!

 

 

 

I've used the Crazy for Cupcakes Stamp set and the fabulous Sweet & Sour Specialty Designer Series Paper.

 

 

I created highlights on the balloons using the White Signo Gel Pen and added Basic Rhinestones to the balloon valve's and the Cupcake Platter. And see those cherries on top of the cupcakes ... they are colored in with the Cherry Cobbler Marker and a dot of Crystal Effects is added to each one to make it shiny and dimensional. Click on the small picture to view it larger and see the detail!

 

 

 

Other embellishments include the fabulous and gorgeous 5/8" Satin Ribbon in Pumpkin Pie, the Extra Large Decorative Label Punch, and Stampin' Dimensionals!

 

Okay .. ready for the measurements!

1. Layer One -- Rose Red Cardstock cut at 5.5 x 8.5", scored and folded in half.
2. Layer Two -- DSP cut at 4 x 5.25". Stretch the ribbon across about halfway up.
3. Layer three -- Rose Red cut at 3.25 x 3.75"
4. Layer Four -- Whisper White cut at 3 x 3.5". Stamp images with Black Stazon Ink. Color in cupcakes with Markers or Reinkers/Blender Pens. Stamp the balloons on scraps of colored cardstock, cut out and attach to layer with SNAIL adhesive. Attach layers three and four together. Stamp the sentiment on Whisper White cardstock and punch out, adding a shadow punch of Rose Red. Attach sentiment to the back of layer three and attach to card with Stampin' Dimensionals!
5. Inside of Card -- Whisper White cut at 4 x 5.25". Stamp images and color with markers or Blender pens.

Birthday Cards are Pouring In!

Hello everyone! if you've been following my blog, you know that I've put out a call for Birthday Cards! You see, my birthday is this Wednesday, May 26th. And although I'm asking folks to send me cards (because I love to get mail and see your creations), the cards (please leave them blank without personel messages) will ultimately be sent overseas to deployed Military personnel who will then send them back to their loved ones in the States. You can read all the details on my original post HERE!

I'm making some cards to include in my package to From Our Hearts as well. Here's one that I did this weekend using the new Watercolor Trio stamp set. The colors are So Saffron, Tangerine Tango and Whisper White. Additional marker colors on the flowers are Riding Hood Red and Old Olive. The ribbon is a bit of (retired) Riding Hood Red Taffeta (hope they bring that one back with the new Color Renovation).

Well, I put the appeal out a week ago and already I've received 64 cards in the mail! WOW -- you can only imagine how much fun it is to open all this mail! And even more fun to imagine the faces and hearts of military families as they receive these wonderful hand-made cards from their loved ones serving our country.

Cards have come from Illinois and Virginia, California and New Jersey, Texas and Michigan and all points in-between! It's overwhelming, really, and I want to thank you so much for honoring my birthday in this way! It's not too late to send your cards! Cards need to be postmarked by May 31st so you've got another week to get them in the mail. The original goal was to collect 200 Birthday cards for the Troops but I think we can exceed that! There's some pretty fabulous Blog Candy being offered as well. Each card received will give it's creator one chance in a random drawing. It's my Birthday gift to you for helping me out and for thinking of me.

Here are a few pictures I took of some of the cards! This is the very first one that came in the mail last Thursday from Darlene LeMar in Yale, Illinois! It's beautiful, Darlene!!! Thanks so much!

It's My Birthday and I'll give away Blog Candy if I want To!

Hello everyone! In just 10 short days, on May 26th, your's truly will be celebrating a birthday and I would love to have my mailbox flooded with handmade birthday cards and greetings! Wouldn't that be fun! So, I've decided to offer some very special blog candy for one lucky, random winner. All the cards will be eventually donated to From Our Hearts, and will be sent overseas to deployed military personnel who will be able to send them back to loved ones for their birthdays. So please do not write a greeting to me on the inside of the card. If you would like to send a personal birthday greeting to me (which would thrill me to pieces), please write it on a post-it note or separate piece of paper and tuck it inside the card. That way, I'll get to enjoy and keep your greeting and still pass the beautiful, handmade cards onto our military personnel. Here's the rules:

1. Create a hand-made birthday card. Supplies do not need to be limited to Stampin' Up (although you know how I love to see those Stampin' Up! supplies used on cards). Be sure and put your name and contact information on the back of the card. A personal greeting to me (if you wish to include one) should be on a separate piece of paper, not written on the card. Also on that separate piece of paper, include your name, address and e-mail address.
2. Mail your card to Gretchen Barron, 837 West Olive Street, Decatur, IL 62526. Cards must be post-marked by May 31st.
3. Leave a comment on my blog (any post) to let me know your card is coming in the mail.
4. I will share pictures of some of my favorite's on my blog throughout May and June. Once I photograph them and enter the creators name in the drawing, the cards will be packed-up to send to the From Our Hearts organization.
5. On Sunday, June 13th, the lucky Blog Candy Winner will be announced and their card featured on my blog. The winner will be chosen from a random drawing (names will be drawn out of a bowl by my daughter). Each card received represents one chance in the drawing. If you send multiple cards, you will have multiple chances in the drawing. Blog Candy Update: To be in complaince with Stampin' Up! Policy, the Blog Candy Package, including the cardstock, ribbon and embellishments samples from the new catalog, will be shipped to the lucky winner on July 1, 2010!
6. Also on June 13th, I will announce the total number of cards that were received and that will be sent to From Our Hearts. I will also report from time to time, the number of cards being received.
7. Entries can be sent from anywhere in the world and are not limited to residents of the US.

Oh yeah -- do you want to know what I used on my inspiration card today? The stamp set is Awash With Flowers and the sentiment comes from Watercolor Trio. The colors are Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry and Whisper White. The ribbon is 1/2" Polka Dot Grosgrain in Rich Razzleberry and Crushed Curry. I used a square Rhinestone Brad for this cute little bow center and the Scallop Trim Border Punch. And I used the Big Shot and the Square Lattice Impressions Folder for the texture on the background.

I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream ... for Ice Cream!

Hello everyone! The Design Team Challenge this week on Late Night Stampers is to design a card that is ANYTHING but the regular size. So I put together this fun little Birthday card today that is unusual in both size and shape ... and, looks good enough to eat!

The first time I saw the new Stampin' Up! Perfect Details Texturz Plate I immediately thought "ice cream cone"! Isn't it perfect (no pun intended) for this! I cut the cone from Creamy Caramel Cardstock by simply folding a 8.5 x 5.5" piece of cardstock in half (like you would do to make a regular card) and then cut on a diagonal (with my Paper Trimmer) from the top right corner to the bottom at the fold. You have to trim a little off the top when you're done to make an even triangle. I ran it through the Big Shot, using the Perfect Details Texturz Plate, cut another piece of Whisper White for the Inside and stamped it with the Birthday Sentiment Stamp.

Now for the delicious Ice Cream recipe (click for a larger image)! I inked up just the frosting part of Simple Birthday Thanks with Black Stazon Ink and stamped it on Pretty in Pink Cardstock and cut it out. I stamped the Cherry again on Whisper White, colored it in with a Real Red and Chocolate Chip Marker and then covered it with Crystal Effects and set it aside to dry. I love how shiny and dimensional it looks -- very realistic. Using a 2-way Glue Pen, I applied Dazzling Diamonds glitter in swirls on the frosting cut-out. I put tiny little dots of Crystal Effects on each of the "dots" on the frosting and then, using tweezers, applied a single Glass Bead to each of the dots. Once the Crystal Effects was dry on the cherry, I cut it out and attached it to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. I attached the Ice Cream to the Cone with SNAIL adhesive. Yum, yum ... I think I need to make a trip to the kitchen!

Happy, Happy Birthday Cards!

Good Morning, everyone! I've got some Birthday cards to share with you today. The Late Night Stampers challenge this week is Celebration so I thought I would add some Birthday greetings to my supply of cards to send! I dusted off one of my favorite sets from last year, Bloomin' Beautiful, for this little gem. I used a bit of the fabulous Pink Flamingo Designer Series Paper. I love the combination of Only Orange, Real Red and Regal Rose. It's so bright and festive! The watercoloring was done with reinkers and a Blender Pen! The ribbon is 3/8"  Pink Taffeta. I used one of the SU Backgrounds Texturz's Plates and the Big Shot. And look at the cool effect that I got on the inside with the So Swirly Wheel (click on thumbnail photo for larger image). I inked it up with Only Orange and then took a Sponge Daubber with Real Red and just dabbed on color randomly for this great two-tone effect. Will definitely need to remember this little trick for the future! It makes for a great surprise when you open up the card!

This next card actually uses the same basic layout but it is a far different look in bright Tempting Turquoise, Green Galore, Apricot Appeal and Rainbow Sherbet DSP! Such fun for that next child's birthday party! The animals are from Wild About You, the balloon is from   Crazy for Cupcakes, the party hat is from Sock Monkey and the sentiment is one of the new single stamps that you can now purchase from Stampin' Up! I paper-pieced the party hats and inside balloon and added lots of shimmery Fine Cosmo glitter on the cover balloon. I think these little guys are ready to Paar-tay!

Birthday Tag Set

 

Never be without a Birthday Tag again when you make this bright and colorful set of jumbo tags that I created for this week's Late Night Stamper's Tag Challenge. The tags are even large enough they could be put in an envelope and used as cards! They are perfect for kids (of all ages) with their bright, festive colors and fun images. The larger tags measure 3 1/2 x 5" and the smaller ones are 2 1/2" 4". Stamp sets include: Crazy for Cupcakes, Party Hearty, Simple Birthday Thanks and Hugs & Wishes.

The colors are mostly from the Bold Brights family -- Green Galore, Yo Yo Yellow, Only Orange, Real Red, Pink Passion and Ballet Blue (Rich Regals).

I used the Tag Corner and Horizontal Slot Punches and lots of colorful ribbons. Many of the tags have shimmery Crystal Effects touches (the cherry on the cupcake and balloons) and some have Dazzling Diamonds glitter. The striped DSP is from Rainbow Sherbet.

Tags are a great way to use up small scraps of cardstock. Wouldn't this little set make a great Hostess Gift or incentive. Or just a fabulous thing to have on hand and use when you need a quick tag for a birthday gift!

To help celebrate and give you a little inspiration along the way, I've designed this adorable Gift Card Holder, perfect for a birthday or any special occasion! The base of the holder (in Old Olive) measures 4.75 x 3.75" so this will fit in a standard medium-sized envelope just perfectly! The So Saffron layer measures 3.5 X 11" and is scored at 4.5 and 9". You punch just half of a 1 3/8" circle punch on the edge of the short section (see the photo below), fold it up and attach brads to make the card holder. Then you just decorate the top. I used Georgia Peach Designer Series Paper, Old Olive 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, the Scallop Circle Punch and the Party Hearty Stamp Set. It's a quick and easy project and there's plenty of room to write your personalized message on the inside of the card!

And no, the Gift Card is not included (well, not unless I'm sending it to you)! LOL!!!

October 31st is also the last day to order the Designer Series Paper and Ribbon  Sampler Kits, including DSP from the Holiday Mini Catalog. This is a great way to get a little bit of everything without having to buy complete packages of paper or spools of ribbon. This is a limited time offer. Deadline for ordering the Sampler Kits is Thursday, October 30th at 11:59 p.m. (central time). I still need a couple more people for the new Marker Club that is forming. Marker Club is a 4-month commitment (no meetings). Each month you pay $37.50 and receive one Color Family of Stampin' Write Markers. During one of the months, you will also receive the Carry and Storage Case for the markers so at the end of the 4-month commitment, you've received the entire set of 48 Markers in the Storage Case. You also receive tips and ideas each month of how to use and care for your new Markers, along with a project sheet. If you live out of my area, there will also be an additional $2 charge each month for me to send your markers to you.
